Metallurgy Manager | Amsted Industries | Petersburg, VA
BRENCO, producer of tapered roller bearings for the railroad industry
has an immediate need for a Metallurgy Manager. Brenco is part of larger
company - Amsted Rail. ASF-Keystone, Brenco and Griffin Wheel, offer
quality solutions that combine castings, bearings and wheels from all
three of the Amsted rail divisions, providing some 90% of your freight
car undercarriage requirements from one reliable source.
Responsibilities
- Manages metallurgical operations and quality of all steel supply
operations.
- Directs and monitors the inspection and testing of all incoming steel
product.
- Provides technical support to purchasing and product engineering.
- Conducts surveys and assessments of steel suppliers and prepares
appropriate reports of findings.
- Resolves steel quality problems through ongoing consultation and
efficient operation of the metallurgy department.
- Coordinates and conducts steel trials as required to assure a
dependable supplier base.
- Provides operational consultation and oversight of all heat treating
related functions, including process monitoring and trouble-shooting.
- Serves as technical advisor for nondestructive testing, including
ultrasonic and eddy current tests.
- Provides technical support and training as required on metallurgical
subjects.
- Assures that documentation for metallurgical processes, testing, and
equipment is maintained and updated as required.
- Conduct or direct root cause analysis and failure analysis.
- Provides for the continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and
equipment. Assures maximum reliability of equipment, processes and
procedures.
- Provides complete project management for new equipment and system
acquisitions, modifications, installations and upgrades.
Position requirements
- A bachelor degree in materials science, metallurgy or mechanical
engineering or equivalent professional qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years managerial experience in a manufacturing environment
- At least 5 years of metallurgist experience with ferrous metals heat
treatment processes which includes process troubleshooting experience
